OSCT Project - The osCommerce Automated Phone Assistant
You’ve got all the mods. You’ve implemented all the hacks. Your osCommerce store is more tricked out than a magician on steroids.
Now you’re looking for the ultimate in geekyness. Something that you don’t really need but is so cool you just have to have it. The thing that will make your osCommerce buddies crumple to their knees and proclaim you as their new master.
Imagine if you osCommerce store could do this…
- You call a telephone number and an automated response tells you how many pending orders you have and how much they are worth.
- Whenever your store receives an order, your phone rings and an automated response tells you who it’s from and what they ordered.
- Customers call your store, enter their order number, and an automated response tells them the status of their order.
Well my friends, imagine no longer. In the next few weeks OSCT (oscommerce-tips.com) is going to attempt to make this dream a reality. If successful, I’ll post a full article on how I did it.

I like this new addition for automated phone assistant , however this means you need to add a pbx to the server where oscommerce is installed. Are you using asterix ?

Hi Ash,
Yes I used Trixbox, which includes Asterix as the PBX server. I have two servers. One for Asterisk which runs on my home network, and then a hosted web server which runs osCommerce.
You could install them both on the same box, but I wouldn’t recommend it.
